Choosing the perfect kitchen or laundry sink

Kitchen and laundry sinks are an essential. Without them, where would we wash our hands, wash dishes, and wash our clothes, amongst other tasks?!

Using one is easy – it’s just choosing one to buy that can prove to be a difficult task! Thankfully, help is at hand. If you feel as though your kitchen and laundry room sink is due an upgrade, have a quick read of our buying guide below – you’ll be washing, cooking, and cleaning your dream kitchen and laundry room in no time at all!

First things first...

Get measuring! Measure the space in which you want to install your new sink, and make sure to do it a few times for the best result. Also take into account if you want a waste or sideboard for your sink. Some sinks are just a standalone sink, whilst others will be split into two with one part acting as a waste, or with one part acting as a sideboard of sorts – it’s entirely up to you which one you choose.

Be material

Next, you can decide what material you wish your sink to be made out of.  In a kitchen and laundry room environment, we would recommend stainless steel. It’ll never rust or stain – which is ideal when it’s going to be used frequently – it’s easy to clean and maintain, and it is extremely hard-wearing, meaning it can stand up to bumps, dents, and scrapes.

As well, the neutral colour means that it will match most kitchens colour schemes.

A few things to think about...

Before you get buying, have a quick think about the following;

  • Will the sink fit everything I need to wash? If you purchase a smaller sink with a waste attached, it may be difficult to wash larger pans – make sure you have room!
  • Be clever with your cleaning products - make sure that the cleaning products (that’s both products used to clean the sink AND what you use to clean clothes/ dishes) are suitable for use with the material the sink is made of.
  • Shape up - sinks with sharper corners and edges look more contemporary, but can be trickier to clean. Sinks with rounded corners and edges are easier to clean, but may not look too sleek – whichever you choose depends entirely on personal preference.
