There have been a lot of advancements in toys since I was a child. I remember when all the toys that I had were some wooden blocks and a bike. Of course, as soon as I got a little older, they updated those toys and I looked back with the “wish they had those toys when I was younger” feeling. Not to date myself, but one of those toys was Legos. Those toys were new, and we could not afford them when I was younger.
For years, I was not interested in toys till my son and daughter were born. Then I started looking into toys for them. I was amazed by the new toys that I was able to find. I’m not even talking about toys like the Xbox360 and the Wii, although the Wii is now starting to use some of the idea of toys I had when I was younger. They have a Combat Pack which is basically like the plastic sword toys, but with electronics inside. It is good to know that some of the old ideas for toys have not been forgotten, they have just been updated.
I have even noticed some toys that I never would have thought could make home toys. Remember the claw game from the store? Well, now it has been minimized into a candy claw toy called “The Claw”. I never would have thought that toys could have been influenced by such an idea. But it shows that the advancement in toys has been taking some of the things we enjoyed when we were younger and making them into smaller versions of the toys for our children.
Another toy I wish I had when I was younger is a toy like the battery powered police bike. When I was younger and had a toy bike, I had to pedal it to get anywhere. Now they have more power and they feel less like toys and more like actual motorcycles. Of course they are safer than actual motorcycles because they are toys, but children feel like they are closer to the older children because they have one.
I look at the new toys today and I cannot only see the major advancements that have come from technology, but I even feel it from them. I love now that I can do shop online for my toys. I never did like the rushed and crowded feeling I got in the toys section of physical stores like Myer or David Jones. So, I guess there has been more than just advancements in toys for children; there have also been huge advancements in the “toys” that we adults use.
